Yetter Douglas Allen (15 DEC 1938 - 27 OCT 2017)

Douglas Allen Yetter passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Ladysmith Care Center in Ladysmith at the age of 78.

Doug was born on Dec. 15, 1938 near Bruce. His parents were Wayne and Jessie (Stevens) Yetter. The family moved to the Dairy Center area near Tony, where Doug spent his early childhood years. They moved to Amacoy Lake near Bruce when Doug was 12 years old. He graduated from Bruce High School in 1956. He joined the U.S. Army after high school and spent three years in Germany. Soon after returning to the Ladysmith area he re-joined the Army and spent that tour in Korea.

Doug settled in California after his Army years, becoming a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines in 1966. He drove in California, Nevada, the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada, and Alaska on regular routes and on special tours. He retired from Greyhound in 1990 and from that time until his retirement in 2003 he was an operator of Regional Transit trains in Sacramento.

Doug became a snowbird, spending his summers in Wisconsin and his winters in Yuma Ariz, living in his RV. He enjoyed this lifestyle very much with friends in Yuma and family and friends in Wisconsin. He had the best of two worlds. In 2006, he decided to purchase a home near Ladysmith, still spending the winters in Yuma.

Doug enjoyed spending time with his siblings, many nieces and nephews and cousins. He looked forward to attending the Greyhound reunions every year in Reno, Nev. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading, photography, watching the Brewers and crossword puzzles.

In 2013, Doug became reacquainted with a fellow Bruce High graduate, Gloria (Oleson) Quilty. In 2014, they became life partners and were together until his death.

He is survived by his life partner, Gloria Quilty; his brothers, Lewane “Chuck” (Darlene) Yetter of Dewey, Ariz. and Lewis (Cindy) Yetter of Chippewa Falls; his sisters, Janice Wright of Mesa Ariz. and Jana (Bill) Susnik of Thorp; his special friend and cousin, George (Judy) Crabb of Eau Claire and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his “sweet girls” pets, Miki and Zoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Zelma Ann.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Ladysmith Congregational United Church of Christ, 109 E Lake Ave. in Ladysmith with Rev. David A. Bowles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or Rusk County Animal Shelter or your favorite charity. Military Burial Rites will be provided by the Ladysmith Veterans Association in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Nash-Jackan Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
