Chudyk, Katie (19 September 1919 – 21 December 2017)

Katie Chudyk, 98, died Thursday, Dec. 21, at Atrium Post-Acute Care (Marshfield Care Center), Marshfield.

Katie was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Manitoba, Canada, to Jack and Amanda (Durand) Hryciuk. She quit school at an early age to help care for her younger siblings when her mother fell ill, later taking them into her own home, beginning a life of welcoming children into her family.

She married Peter Chudyk in 1937 and they took over the Chudyk family farm. In 1950, the couple and their two young children moved to Detroit, MI, to seek work in the busy auto industry.

They later moved to Owen to return to farming, where the family built up a Grade A farm.

The Chudyks were foster parents to many and welcomed numerous others into their home when they needed a place to stay.

Katie is survived by her sons, Frank (Shirley) Chudyk of Marshfield, Jeff Bautch of Fort Meyers, FL, and Henry (Barb) Chudyk of Naples, FL; her daughters, Margie (Eddy) Friedenfels of Eau Claire, Bernice Seidel (Teddy) of Neillsville, Bev Molitor of Lakeland, FL, and Geraldine (Jerry) Pflanzer of Colby; her granddaughter and companion, Cheryl Chudyk; and multiple other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Chudyk; her sons, Bernie Chudyk, Donny Chudyk and Pauly Chudyk; a daughter, Patricia Jagodzinski, and son-in-law, Jim Molitor.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Abbotsford, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
