Sheets, Chester Le Roy (4 June 1904 – 10 September1974)

Chester Le Roy Sheets, Rt. 2, Boyd, former Greenwood resident, died early Tuesday morning, September 10, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, where he was taken following a stroke on Thursday, September 5.

Mr. Sheets, son of Joseph Asa and Nancy (Grove) Sheets, was born June 4, 1904, in Greenwood.

He attended the Christopherson elementary school in Greenwood. He moved to Eau Claire County, Wilson township, where he was employed for the Wisconsin Conservation Department as a tower man. He entered military service at the outbreak of World War II and returned to his civilian occupation following his discharge from the U. S. Army Air Force in 1943. He was a member of the local American legion Post No. 238.

He retired from work at the Conservation Department in 1966 after 26 years. The members of the Conservation Department attended the funeral services in a body.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Gene Carlson, pastor of the Loyal United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers, all Legionnaires, were: Pete Bogdonovich, Thomas Elmer, Fred Decker, Ernest Elmer, Cletus Susa, and Harold Hendrickson.

Gary Schultz sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “In the Garden,” accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Gary Schultz.

Mr. Sheets is survived by his wife, one son, George Sheets of Stanley; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Stocks of Tucson, Az., and Barbara at home, and one brother, Leland Sheets, who resides at the Memorial Home in Neillsville.

Wallis-Hinker Legion Post No. 238 performed military rites. Kenneth Speich Commander of the Post No. 238 presented the flag. The bugler was Kitty Yurkovich.
