Kaim, Reverend Ernest J. (24 DEC 1913 – 18 SEP 1970)
Funeral services for Reverend Ernest J. Kaim, 57, pastor of St. James Catholic
Church in Amherst, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 22nd, at the church.
Father Kaim was killed Friday night, September 18, 1970 in an automobile
accident near Custer.
Officiating at the services was Bishop Frederick Freking of La Crosse Diocese.
A general rosary was recited jointly Sunday by St. James Holy Name Society and
St. James Altar Society.
A funeral mass was said on Thursday, September 24 at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Father Kaim was baptized, confirmed and
graduated from elementary school and ordained a priest at St. Joseph's. Burial
was in Calvary Cemetery in Steger, Illinois.
Father Kaims was born December 24, 1913 in Chicago Heights, a son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Kaim.
He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and had been pastor at
St. James for the past four years.
Before coming to Amherst, Father Kaim was pastor at St. Mary's Church in
Czestochowa (Clark Co., Wis.), St. James Church in Vesper, St. Michael's Church
in Junction City and Sacred Heart Church in La Crosse.
He was assistant pastor at Sacred heart Church in Appleton, Most Precious Blood
Church in New London, Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, and St. Hedwig's
Church in Thorp.
He was also temporary administrator at Sacred heart Church in Polonia. He formed
a parish from a mission church when he came to Amherst.
Survivor include: his mother, Zofia, Steger, Illinois; two brothers, Edward and
Daniel, both of Steger; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Josephine) Madera and Irene,
both of East Chicago, Indiana.
