Hanson, Geraldine “Gerry” M. (Premeau) (29 JUL 1928 - 28 OCT 2017)

Geraldine “Gerry” M. Hanson, 89, of Wausau, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau where she had resided for the past 5 days.

The funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 2 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher and Deacon John Bourke officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, Westboro. Her grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Visitation will be at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake, from 12 noon until time of funeral mass at 1 PM on Thursday, November 2.

Gerry was born on July 29, 1928, at Westboro, to Edmond L. and Viola Verna (Poff) Premeau.

She attended Westboro elementary schools and was a graduate of Westboro High School. On December 2, 1948, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Westboro, Gerry was married to O. Arthur Hanson. He preceded her in death May 8, 1977.

She resided in various places – Westboro, WI from 1928-1952, Coeur d’Alene, ID, Moscow, ID and Lewiston, ID from 1952-1960, Menomonie, WI from 1960-1975, Ladysmith, WI from 1975-1985, Westboro, WI from 1985-1994, Marathon, WI from 1994-1997, and Wausau, WI from 1997-present. She also spent her winters in Texas for 20 years. She worked as an insurance agent for State Farm Agency in Ladysmith and Knight Insurance Agency in Menomonie for periods of time. She also worked as a church secretary at Our Lady of Sorrow in Ladysmith for a period of time. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shuffleboard, swimming, visiting casinos, and family get togethers (especially at the Mondeaux Flowage). Gerry was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Wausau.

She is survived by her children, Theresa “Terri” (Ed) Anderson of Monroe, WI, Cynthia “Cindy” (Mark) Meyering of Marathon, WI and David “Dave” (Cheryl) Hanson of Ladysmith, WI; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; and a brother, Clifford “Eddie” Premeau of Ogema.

Gerry is predeceased by her husband O. Arthur Hanson, her parents Edmond L. and Viola Verna (Poff) Premeau, Viola Verna (Poff) Premeau, an infant daughter – Sharon Lynne Hanson; and a sister, Sue Tlusty.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given either to the Aspirus Hospice House of Wausau or the American Cancer Society.
