The Associated Colleges of the Midwest has announced the selection of 15 college students to participate in the 1969-70 Central American Field Studies Program. Among those selected is John Kallio, route 2, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.). Kallio will be representing Cornell College of Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

The Central American Field Studies Program is organized to offer advanced students in biology and the social sciences opportunities to participate in field research in the Central American tropics. Research teams consisting of faculty members and students to carry out investigations of significant problems. This year's team will study food productivity of Costa Rica.

According to program director, Dr. J. Robert Hunter, the schedule for the 1969-70 program consists of two extended semesters of five and a half months each. Students enroll for one of the two semesters.

The fall semester team will leave the U.S. during the last week in June in order to be at the program headquarters in San Jose, Costa Rica by June 30.

Kallio, a sophomore biology major at Cornell College, is a member of the Cornell Biology Club and the national honorary biology society, Beta Beta Beta.
