Ronald (Ron) A. Meyer, 78, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

Born on March 6, 1939 to Alfred and Odelia (Burr) Meyer in Auburndale, Ron graduated from Loyal High School in 1957, and served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 during the Berlin Crisis.

Ron married the love of his life, Judy Schommer, on November 26, 1960. He was a professional carpenter with a reputation for excellence and imagination, and his work can still be seen in many of the houses and commercial buildings in the Marshfield area.

A very active and involved person in the community, Ron served as a member and past president of the Central Wisconsin State Fair Association, a charter member and past president of the Wood County Junior Fair Board, and past president of the Columbus High School Board of Education, in addition to many other volunteer activities. In 2003, the International Association of Fairs honored him with the Heritage Award for his outstanding leadership and contribution to the Central Wisconsin State Fair.

Besides Judy, his wife of 56 years, Ron is survived by his children, Mary (Don) Berger of Monroe, WI, Carol (Greg) Jacobs of Stoughton, WI, Steven (Michelle) Meyer of Green Bay, and Charles (Nancy) Meyer of Madison. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren: Andrew Berger of Atlanta, Kiera Berger, also of Atlanta, Sophie Jacobs, Stoughton, Dr. Jacob (Jenny Vu) Meyer of Omaha, NE, Alex Meyer of Madison, Adam Meyer, Green Bay, Carson Meyer, and Claire Meyer, both of Madison. Also surviving eight siblings: Sister Virdean Meyer, Marshfield, Richard (Judy) Meyer, Unity, Frederick (Judy) Meyer, Hudson, Larry (Virginia) Meyer, Unity, Allen (Diane) Meyer, Daniel (Diane) Meyer, Randall (Pam) Meyer and Robert (Coni) Meyer, all of Loyal.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at our Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Memorial at 11:00 A.M., with Fr. James Logan and Deacon Steven Meyer presiding.

Memorials in his honor may be designated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
