Smazal, Irene A. (Haas) (8 NOV 1942 - 6 MAY 2017)

Irene A. Smazal, age 74, of Unity, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in International Falls, MN.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

Family and friends are welcome from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Irene was born November 8, 1942, the daughter of William and Edna (Scheelk) Haas in the Town of Hull. She was united in marriage to Eugene "Jack" Smazal on January 28, 1976 in
Waukegan, IL.

Irene worked at Welcome Dairy, farmed and at Angelus Retirement Community in Marshfield. After she retired, she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. Irene liked polka music, stock car racing, and taking care of her flower garden. Most of all, she cherished her family.

Irene is lovingly survived by her six children: Cindy (Carey) Gosselin of Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada, David (GiGie) Harder of International Falls, MN, Michael (Jill) Harder of New York Mills, MN, Wendy (Jim) Blake of Lewiston, ID, Brian Harder of Colby and Gene (Gwen) Smazal of Unity; two step-daughters, Kelly (Mike) Svoboda of Marshfield and Betty Smazal of Marshfield; 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by three sisters and a brother: Doris (Bruce) Wussow of Colby, Ella Huckbody of Wausau, Elaine Schultz of Colby and George (Maxine) Haas of Colby; two sisters-in-law, Izzy Haas of Marshfield and Marian Haas of Colby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Art Haas, William Haas, Jr. and Jim Haas; three sisters, Rose Skwarski, Helen Damrow and Myrtle Baumgartner.
