Weis, Thomas D. (28 SEP 1948 - 10 APR 2017)

Thomas D. Weis, age 68, of Unity, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield with his family’s love surrounding him.

His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Spencer with Rev. Rebekah Tarras presiding. Family and friends were invited to gather on Thursday at the church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Committal services will be held privately at a later date.

Tom was born Sept. 28, 1948, in Milan, the son of Anton and Artemis (Freimund) Weis. He attended a rural elementary school, Zion Lutheran School and later graduated from Colby High School. He furthered his education at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau with a degree in accounting.

On Oct. 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Lilli-Marlene Neuman at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Tom worked as a payroll accountant early on and later operated his dairy farm in Unity until his retirement.

He loved family gatherings, cookouts and giving horse rides to the grandkids. His hobbies included riding motorcycle and snowmobiling, caring for and riding horses or getting out to go hunt for deer, bear, coyote, raccoon and fox. His family remembers Tom as someone always more than willing to help his children, his neighbors or anyone in need. He was a “jack of all trades.” His family remembers him as being a generous man who enjoyed getting away to take a drive up north through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest just to experience the wildlife and the beauty of the forest.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lilli Weis of Unity; his children, Michelle (Gary) Popp, Jr. of Unity, Steve (special friend Katie Rolli) Weis of Medford and Jessica (Todd) Ertl of Unity; his grandchildren, Ethan, Evan (his fiance Taylor), Britney, Heidi, David, Trevor, Jenelle, Jasmine and Juliet; four siblings, Elsie Dommer of Abbotsford, Herman (Betty) Weis of Athens, Marge (Bob) Wiersig of Whitehouse, Texas, and John Weis of Atwood; his new horse, “Jack”; along with many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Heather; a son-in-law, Edwin Ensign, a brother-in-law, Arvin Dommer; his previous horses, “Snowflake” and “Midnight”, some of his former beagles, black and tan and walker hunting dogs including “Barney” and “Duke.”

If desired, the family is accepting memorials in Tom’s name to a charity to be determined at a later time.
