Berg, Gary Evar (10 FEB 1951 - 12 APR 2017)

Gary Evar Berg, 66, of Ogema died Wednesday April 12, 2017, at the home he built, surrounded by his family, and under the care of Flambeau Health Hospice.

Gary was born in Medford on February 10, 1951 to Eugene and Estelle (Cummings) Berg. On June 17, 1988 Gary married Lois Gunderman at First Lutheran Church in Ogema.

He served his country in the United States Army as an 82nd Airborne Ranger, on active duty from 1971-1973, and was in the Reserves until 1977.

Gary worked in Prentice for more than 40 years as a Production Welder for Omark, Blount and finally Caterpillar, where he retired from in 2015. He also served on the Ogema Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years, joining at the age of 18. Gary was an active member of the department up until the time of his passing. One of his favorite sayings was “You don’t retire from being a volunteer.” Gary was driven to serve his community. He was treasurer of the Ogema Fire Protection District for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the First Lutheran Church of Ogema.

Gary loved to be outdoors, and passed that love down to his sons. He enjoyed hunting deer and small game and loved to musky fish on the Jump River. He also enjoyed watching and feeding birds with his wife Lois, as they maintained multiple blue bird houses throughout their property.

Gary is survived by in life by his Wife: Lois of Ogema, two sons: Daniel (Ashley) and Jason, both of Ogema; two Granddaughters: Ahnalie and Lena; Mother: Estelle Cummings of Medford, two Sisters: Karen (Gary) Westberg, and Pat Bahr, both of Ogema.

He is preceded in death by his father Eugene, and a brother Michael.

Memorial Services for Gary will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday April 22, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema. Rev. Dr. Bob Giese will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema.

Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church, Saturday April 22, 2017 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Gary can be given to the Ogema Volunteer Fire Company or First Lutheran Church of Ogema.
