Suda, Avis Joan (31 July 1933 – 8 April 2017)

Avis J. Suda, 83, of Willard passed away at House of the Dove in Marshfield Saturday, April 8, 2017.

Avis Joan Lunka was born July 31, 1933, to Joseph and Lucille (nee Stanley) Lunka, in rural Greenwood at the home of her maternal grandparents. She grew up in Willard where her parents owned a general store and feed mill. Avis attended Willard State Grade School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1951. She worked in the family store business until her marriage to Stanley Suda June 1, 1957, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. They purchased her parent’s business in 1958, and operated the general merchandise store, feed mill, and machinery business until 1984, when they sold the business and semi-retired. They built a new home on the south edge of Willard where they owned land. Stanley continued to do service work in his line of mechanics and plumbing. They enjoyed time at their hunting cabin near Phillips, and at their cabin at Mead lake. They also enjoyed traveling with their motor home, as well as taking tours through most of the states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Her husband Stanley passed away Sept. 19, 2003, and she continued living in Willard.

She traveled to several countries with friends, including, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Italy, Nova Scotia, and the Canadian Rockies. Avis enjoyed going to Orange Beach, AL, for part of the winter to enjoy time with her ‘snowbird’ friends and to get away from the icy roads. She also enjoyed time with her family and friends, Friday Fish Fry’s with her girlfriends, making quilts, knitting, crocheting, taking care of her lawn, going to casinos, and reading.

Avis was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women, the church choir, the Willard Historical Society, the Slovenska Druzba Club, the Loyal Red Hat Society, and the Merry Homemakers of Willard.

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Pamela (John) Moris of Woodbury, MN, and Tamara (Andrew) Laska of Rhinelander; five grandchildren, Ross Moris, Grant (Charlotte) Moris, Emily Moris, Cody Zimmermann, Harlie Zimmermann; three step-grandchildren, Hailey, Michael, and Katie Laska; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Stanley.

Pallbearers were John Moris, Andrew Laska, Ross Moris, Grant Moris, Cody Zimmermann, and Michael Laska.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Rev. Steve Brice officiated, and burial followed in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

The family asks that memorials to be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church, House of the Dove, or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.cuddiefh.com.  Cuddie Funeral Home of Greenwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
