Sokolowski, Wilma M. (23 MAY 1929 – 11 FEB 2017)

Wilma Marie Sokolowski, age 87, of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), died peacefully at Oakbrook Health & Rehab on February 11, 2017, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held in the summer.

Wilma was born in Thorp on May 23, 1929, to William and Clara (Doege) Darge, and was raised here, graduating from Thorp High School in 1947. She worked at the Auto Café and the Thorp Telephone Co. before marrying Stanley Sokolowski on September 29, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They later divorced. She worked at Frederick Post Co. in Owen for many years, and was also a waitress at Dave's Steakhouse in Owen and at the Thorpedo.

Wilma was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was active in The Ruth Circle. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and a member of Teamsters Local 662. Wilma had many interests, but especially enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening, flowers, knitting, dancing and music.

She is survived by five children: Greg of Chicago, Lori Clayton of Lake Geneva, WI, Kay (Dave) Jordan of Elkhorn, WI, Mark (Karyn) of Winter Springs, FL, and Chad of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters: Dorothy Soper of Eau Claire, WI, Viola Graham of Stanley, WI, and Elaine Barsevich of Round Lake, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; he ex-husband, Stanley; her granddaughter, Leah Turenne; her sson-in-law, Bill Clayton; brothers: Donald and William; and sisters: Leora Deuel and Edna Peliwo.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Penny Pattee George and Carol Pagel, and Pastor Daniel Vang for their visits and time spent with Wilma. Thanks also to the staff of Oakbrook and Ministry Hospice.
