South Bend - Carol A. Govek, 62, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at Grand Emerald Assisted Living Facility.

Carol was born September 14, 1954 in Neillsville, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Margaret (Johnson) Govek. Carol was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Govek; and sister-in-law, Jane Govek.

Survivors of Carol include her brothers and sister, John Govek of Wausau, WI, Mary Ruth (David) Weytens of Pensacola, FL, and William J. Govek of Willard, WI; 11 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.

Carol grew up in Willard, WI on her parent's dairy farm where she developed a love for animals and the outdoors. Carol graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, WI in 1972 where she was the 1st female FFA member and a member of the National Honor Society. Throughout her youth she was a member of Willard 4-H. She enjoyed singing in choir, playing volleyball and softball throughout high school and college at UW-Eau Claire. She also obtained a master's degree at Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH. She honorably served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador. She retired from South Bend Community School Corporation May16, 2016 where she taught elementary school. In her youth Carol was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard, WI. As an adult she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lakeville, IN, and a member of the People of Praise.

A Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will take place at 4:15pm Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lakeville, IN with a Funeral Mass to begin at 5:00pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard, WI on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00am. Visitation will start at 9:00am at the church with a Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet beginning at 10:15am.

ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, South Bend, IN and CUDDIE FUNERAL HOME, Greenwood, WI are assisting the family with arrangements.
