Schnelle, Edward William (11 JUN 1931 - 4 JAN 2017)

Edward William Schnelle, 85, of Stratford entered his eternal home on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at his home.

Eddie was born June 11, 1931, in the town of Cleveland. He was the son of Frederick and Leona (Ammerman) Schnelle.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis (Olm), on Aug. 4, 1951, at Ebnezer United Church of Christ in Stratford.

He farmed in the town of Cleveland for the majority of his life and later worked for Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork in Wausau, where he retired after 10 years of service. He loved to hunt, fish and travel. He was fortunate enough in his retirement to travel out west, to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. He enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino also.

He served his community proudly as supervisor for the town of Cleveland for 18 years and chairman for the town of Cleveland for eight years.

On Aug. 6, 2016, Eddie and Phyllis celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, and were blessed to have all the members of their family present.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; their nine children, Jackie (Mark) Behringer of Athens, Terry Schnelle of Edgar, Cheri (Paul) Fuhrman of Hazelhurst, Barb (John) Chrouser of Butternut, David Schnelle of Stratford, Linda (Kim) Rothenberger of Edgar, Pam (Scott) Baasch of Minocqua, Connie (Jason) Zuleger of Stratford and Patti (Troy) Kuyoth of Stratford. He was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Mary Ann Schoenfuss, and a brother-in-law, Eugene Olm.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Lela Spindler and Fern Weisman; two brothers, Ervin and Robert Schnelle; and two grandsons, Bobby Schnelle and Lance Erwin.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Christ United Church in Athens, where the family received relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Rev. Teri Hanson presided. Burial will take place in Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery at a later date. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, assisted the family with arrangements.

A memorial will be designated in Edward’s name at a later date.
