Vanderhoof, Nila J. (6 MAR 1935 – 4 JAN 2017)

Nila J. Vanderhoof, 81, Arpin, went to heaven to be with the love of her life on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield. Rev. Mark Krueger officiated. Burial took place in West Spencer Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandchildren: Gary Brey Jr., Gary Vanderhoof, Greg Vanderhoof, Josh Vanderhoof, Brian Dupee Jr. and Rick Heiting.

Nila Jane Nelson was born on March 6, 1935, in Wood County, to Ed and Viola (nee Bodendorfer) Nelson. She graduated from Veefkind School while she lived and worked on the family farm until she married Archie B. Vanderhoof Sr. on Feb. 2, 1952, in Chili. The couple lived in Brillion, Neillsville and Somers. Nila worked at the Checker Gas Station and the café. In 1972, the family moved to Spencer where they operated Archie & Nila’s Hotel Bar until 1976, when they moved to Arpin. Nila then worked at Bethel Center until her retirement in 1997. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nila is survived by her 10 children: Ruben Vanderhoof of Stratford, Dennis Vanderhoof of Kenosha, Ricky (Joan) Vanderhoof of Kenosha, Dawn (Gary) Brey of Greenwood, Norm (Eileen) Vanderhoof of Marshfield, Annette Kleinschmidt of Neillsville, Archie (Carolyn) Vanderhoof Jr. of Marshfield, David Vanderhoof of Arpin, Nancy (Brian) Dupee of Arpin, and Lisa (Mike) Lyons of Loyal; 28 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Carol “Fuzzy” Harriman of Marshfield; a brother-in-law, Charles (Ruth) Vanderhoof of Colby; and two sisters-in-law, Marion Nelson and Lila Nelson, both of Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; her husband, Archie, on Sept. 21, 2010; a son-in-law, Jerry Kleinschmidt; two brothers: Ed “Pete” Nelson Jr. and Gerald Nelson; and two sisters: Audrey Kampin and Ruby Heckel.
