Habeck, Dean A. (8 SEP 1938 – 10 DEC 2016)

Dean A. Habeck, age 78, formerly of Colby, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

Dean was born on September 8, 1938, the son of Alvin and Phoebe (Timmons) Habeck in Madison. He joined the Marines and was stationed in the South Pacific from 1959-63. On September 14, 1963, Dean was united in marriage to JoAnn Breu in Marshfield. They later divorced.

Dean was a cheesemaker, working at the cheese factory in Riplinger and at AMPI/Foremost in Abbotsford, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, where he was an elder and served in various positions. Dean also was volunteer fireman in Colby for many years.

Dean enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, motorcycles and camping. He also was a Green Bay Packer and Los Angeles Dodgers fan. In his younger days, Dean raced stock cars at area race tracks. He never missed a dairy breakfast and enjoyed eating out, especially Friday fish fry's. Dean always had a joke to tell. But most importantly, he was a proud dad and grandpa and would never miss one of his grandchildren's events.

Dean is survived by his three children: Deanne Fechhelm of Medford, Mike Habeck of Abbotsford and Christine (Randy) Barkley of Medford; four grandchildren: Ashley and Chelsea Hamelund, Joe Fechhelm and Randy Barkley, Jr. (fiancée, Taylor Hipke); three great-grandchildren: John, Wesley and Miles. He is further survived by a sister, Karen (Dick) Siewert of Clintonville and a brother, Paul (Lucy) Habeck of Marshfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clifford Habeck and a sister, Linda Habeck.

Family and friends may express condolences online at www.maurinaschilling.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.
