Amarillo, Texas – Airman First Class Arden L. Blume, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred L. Blume of route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), has been recognized for helping his unit earn the U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

The airman, a jet engine mechanic in the 461st Bombardment Wing of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Amarillo AFB, will wear a distinctive service ribbon as a permanent decoration.

The unit was cited for achieving exceptionally meritorious rating in making tangible contributions to the security of the free world and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of SAC's combat service.

"The commendable manner in which the wing maintained its alert posture was only surpassed by its outstanding proficiency and accomplishment in carrying out B-52 raids in South Vietnam," the citation read.

Airman Blume is a graduate of Colby High School.
