Heidmann, Fredrick “Fred” J. Sr. (7 DEC 1935 - 12 AUG 2010)

Fredrick “Fred” J. Heidmann Sr., 74, Edgar, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August, 17, 2010 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until time of services at the church. There will be full military honors conducted by the American Legion Sawyer-Drumm Post No. 393, Edgar.

He was born December 7, 1935 in Athens, son of the late Fredrick H. and Anne M. (Kania) Heidmann. On February 9, 1956, he married Nancy Beauchene in Warwick, RI. She survives.

Fred served his country as a Aviation Machinist Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer for the United States Navy, retiring in 1974 after 22 ½ years of dedicated service.

He owned and operated Shellback Trucking, and co-owned Heidmann’s Happy Daze Bar with his brother Ron “Toby”. While living in Edgar, he was a mechanic, part-time deputy, village employee, and company manager at Badger Basket. His primary employment involved over the road truck driving.

Fred enjoyed watching Nascar, scuttlebutt in the morning at the local café, and restoring and repairing all types of vehicles including 3 collector cars of his own. Fred also enjoyed talking with fellow retired shipmates Jim, Hank, Tom and John. Family time was most important to Fred, especially Father’s day casino and boating trips and the annual Heidmann Family Reunions.

Survivors include, his wife of 54 years, Nancy Heidmann, Edgar; seven children, Ruth (Perry) Dvorak, Edgar, Gail (Joe) Krause, Edgar, Donna (John) Kasmerchak, Rothschild, Cathy (John) Knetter, Edgar, Marianne (Rick) Mueller, Edgar, Brenda (Chris) Seubert, Marathon and Fred Jr. (Debbie) Heidmann, Stratford; 18 grandchildren, Mandy (Brian) Rogers, Adam Dvorak, Jennifer (Scott) Wirkus, Jessica Krause, Travis (Amber) Krause, Sarah (Travis) Strasser, Chase Kasmerchak, Amy (Josh) Young, Jacob Knetter, Mitchell (Morgan) Mueller, Matthew and Maverick Mueller, Christopher and Natasha Seubert, Vincent, Lucas, Lance and Ella Heidmann; 14 great grandchildren, Peyton, Eli, Chloe, Austin, Allison, Andrea, Tiana, Jayden, Makayla, Ethan, Aubriana, Travis Jr., Kellen and Paxton; one brother, Ronald (Jeannie) Heidmann, Edgar; one sister, Sandra (Clarence) Durr, Edgar; one brother-in-law, George (Pat) Bonn, Warwick, RI; and one sister-in-law, Fran (Ken) Dormer, Warwick, RI.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Scotty Miller.

Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Ministry Home Care Hospice or the Edgar Circle of Joy.
