Donald Harry Stroetz, age 86, of Stratford, passed away peacefully with his family by his side early Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Miller’s Alternative Care, Marshfield.

Don was born Feb. 11, 1930, son of Harry and Wilma (Sersch) Stroetz in Marshfield. He attended Marshfield schools.

He enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 15, 1951, and was honorably discharged on March 22, 1954.

On Feb. 2, 1952, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane McGivern, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Jane preceded Don in death on March 22, 2016. Don worked at Marshfield Homes for 19 years. Don and Jane owned and operated Stroetz’s Tap for 17 years. He was also a proud and loving father, grandpa and great-papa Don.

Don and Jane enjoyed snowmobiling. They also loved to go on road trips gambling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the many family get togethers, Christmas and birthdays. There were many happy times spent up north at the cottage. He was an avid Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. Don was known to be quite a jokester.

Don is lovingly survived by his children, Mary Jane (David) Swenson, Nancy (Gene) Schneider, Patty Kmiec, Jim Stroetz, Barb Peterson and Karen (Leonard) Daniels; his grandchildren, Mark (Tina Worzella) Swenson, Andy Swenson, John (Heather) Swenson, Terri Vanderboom, Brenda (Matt) Churkey, Mike (Tammy Livingston) Kmiec, Justin Peterson, Devan, Colin and Brandon Daniels and Michelle Heiman; as well as six great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother, Leroy (Lynn) Stroetz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Tom Kmiec and Russ Peterson; as well as his siblings, Dorothy Zepplin, Bill Stroetz, Bob Stroetz, Caroline Aldrich and Bernadine Stroetz in infancy. He will be truly missed.

A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Zion United Methodist Church, 2106 North Peach Avenue, Marshfield. Don and Jane were united in burial at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. His grandchildren were pallbearers. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.

Special thank you to Miller’s Alternative Care, Hospice Care and a special thank you to Krissie Krall. Thank you to Don and Jane’s special friend, Fran, for bringing him the good liver and onions which Don enjoyed, to A.J. for taking Don to play cards on Tuesdays at “The Shack”, and to Don’s brother, Leroy, who visited often.
