Newman, Hugh Louis (11 JUL 1936 - 7 NOV 2016)

Hugh Louis Newman 80 of Edgar passed away on November 7, 2016 with his loving family at his bedside.

He was born to John and Pearl (Loar) Newman, Sr. on July 11, 1936.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Paszek) Newman of 59+ wonderful years, two daughters; Cindy (David) Knetter, Stratford, Connie (Darrell) Hand, Troy, MT, three sons; Brian Newman, Anchorage, AK, Russell Newman, Edgar, Gary (Cindy) Newman, Wausau, 12 grandchildren; Troy (Sonja) Knetter, Shawn (Jolene) Knetter, Nathan Knetter, Shannon (Rob) Raflik, Coleridge Hand, Cassidy Hand, Dustin (Krystal) Newman, Tiffany (Kyle) Crawford, Tristyn Newman, Christopher (Amy) Otto, Jamie Bittner, Brianna Bittner, 13 great grandchildren; Brandon, Aaron, Allison Knetter, Dakota, Courtney Knetter, Nolan, Eli, Alayna Raflik, Halley, Austin Newman, Payge, Traetyn, Blanne Crawford, daughter-in-law Frances Newman, one brother Joseph (Darleen) Newman and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son Steven Newman, six brothers; John Jr., Sylvester, Leonard, Kevin, James, William, four sisters; Loretta Buetsch, Delores Butcher, Mary Ann Buchberger and Rosita Hall.

Hugh was born in the small farming community of Halder, and attended school there. He worked on the family dairy farm and married the love of his life Geraldine, better known as "Gerry", on December 29, 1956. He drove a milk truck, worked at Marathon Cheese Corp, Murray's Machinery, and owned and operated Edgar Welding and Machine Shop until his retirement. Together Hugh and Gerry built their wonderful family.

Hugh had a sense of humor and loved to give singing birthday telegrams. He was the host, or as he would say, "the Entertainment Director", of the Newman cabin located on Crystal Lake in Tomahawk. He was an avid Packer sports fan and had a passion for collecting hats of all types and had over 300 on the last count. Near and dear to his heart was his Model “A” cars. He enjoyed collecting old cars and also beer sign memorabilia. Most of all his passion, drive and love were for his family he cherished most.

Services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar, Visitation will be held Friday, November 11th, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., Visitation will again be held on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Father Tom Huff will be officiating. A lunch following Mass will be at the church hall. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please direct all memorials to St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Edgar. John J. Buettgen Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.
