Hughes, Donald

NEILLSVILLE – Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gesche Funeral Home for Donald W. Hughes, 66, Seattle Wash., formerly of Neillsville.

He died Tuesday at Northwest Seattle Hospital.

The Rev. Horst W. Augustin of Zion Lutheran Church, Granton is to officiate and burial will be in Neillsville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and until services Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Glenn, Floyd and Wayne Short, Alan and James Voight and Gary Bartz.

Mr. Hughes was born here Feb. 6. 1914 to James E. and Nettie (Counsell) Hughes and was educated here, graduating from Neillsville High School.

He operated a farm in the town of Grant until 1964 when he moved to Ventura, Calif., where he worked for the school system. In September of this year, he moved to Seattle.

His marriage to the former Gertrude Bartz took place May 25, 1940 at Granton. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Wagner and Mary Larsen, both of Seattle, Wash., and Bettie Scheffer of Vancouver, British Columbia; one son, Michael Hughes of Santa Clara, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Vine of Neillsville and Mrs. Aileen Wheatley of Dade City, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

His parents and a brother, Eugene, are deceased.
