Steinhilber, Lucy (28 August 1911 - 20 September 2016)

Lucy Steinhilber, 105, of Neillsville passed away Sept. 20, 2016, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

Lucy was born in Oshkosh to Anton and Marie (Fehr) Raab Aug. 28, 1911. She married Lester Steinhilber May 25, 1937, in Neillsville. Lucy and Lester “Steinie” started Club 10 in 1937 and operated it until they bought Steinie’s Bar, which is now the Glass house, in downtown Neillsville in 1944. They sold the bar in the mid-50s and bought Steinie’s Club 10 (now Fannies), which they operated until Lester’s death in 1965. Lucy moved back to town and kept busy doing volunteer work at the Hospital Nursing Home, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Red Cross Bloodmobile and especially the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She never drove a car and walked everywhere or relied on good friends and neighbors for a ride. She was a great cook, she did all the cooking at Club 10 and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed life, a glass of wine, a good meal and wearing something red.

She is survived by two children: Lee (Janis) Steinhilber of Wisconsin Rapids, and Susie (Lois) Steinhilber of Oshkosh. She is survived by grandchildren: Jean (Douglas) Dubbink of Eagan, MN, David (Lori) Steinhilber, Mark (Suzanne) Steinhilber, both of Wisconsin Rapids, Julie (Cory) Boettcher of plover, Cathy Cummings, Terri Cummings, both of Oshkosh, and Donna Cummings Chase of Houston, TX. Two special friends: Pat Mrotek and Tootie Gerhardt of Neillsville. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Bradley and Rachel Dubbink of Eagan, MN; Kari (Brian) Pagel, Lewis, Joe, Corrisa, Brandon, Logan, and Erick Steinhilber of Wisconsin Rapids; and Aiden, Ava and Ella Boettcher, all of Plover; Adam and Tyler Chapin, both of Minneapolis, MN, and Stephanie Frederickson and Kelly (Joe) DeWitt of Oshkosh. Lucy also has two great-great-grandchildren, Ian and Jax Pagel, both of Wisconsin Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester Oct. 9, 1965, brothers: Fred and Tony Raab, and sisters, Martha Jake, Tressie Beyer, Mary Hanson and Elsie Potter.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Neillsville Care and Rehab who cared for Lucy for the past five years. They would also like to thank Ministry Home Care hospice of Marshfield for their compassionate care the past few weeks.

A Memorial Service for Lucy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Varkey V. Joseph. Music will be provided by Vincent Cortez, organist, and Beth Erickson, soloist. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the church.
