Daniel J. Brey, age 87, of Colby, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Stoney River Memory Care in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Peter Manickam, will officiate. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Colby with Military Honors provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227. Family and friends are welcome from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Rosary Service at 5:30 and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Daniel "Boone" was born March 25, 1929, the son of Frank and Delia (Joosten) Brey in Milladore. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska and California. Daniel was united in marriage to Marilyn Devine on April 11, 1955 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Marilyn and Dan raised eight children on their farm in rural Colby, retiring in 1976. He also drove school bus for St. Mary's Catholic School for a few years. After farming, he worked at Land O' Lakes in Spencer as a fork lift operator for 20 years.

Daniel was a member of the Colby VFW Post #2227 and the Knights of Columbus. He also did mission work in Bolivia and with "Helping Hands" from Wausau serving in Jamaica. Daniel enjoyed watching the Packers, fixing and building things. His daily routine after retirement consisted of attending daily mass, coffee with the guys and picking up mail for St. Mary's. If Daniel could speak to us now, he would say he is "just peachy".

Daniel is survived by his seven children: Deborah Brey of Colby, Diane Brey of Appleton, Sally (Robert) Crane of Stevens Point, Gary (Vicky) Brey of Appleton, Doreen (David) Hebert of Spencer, Kathleen (Joseph) Conley of Marshfield, and Judine Brey of Eau Claire; his grandchildren: Joshua, Amy, and Nicholas Crane, Kevin and Kelly Brey, Daniel, Marcella, and Steven Hebert, and Anthony and Theodore Conley. He is further survived by his siblings: Bernice Klier and Jean Griesbach of Sheboygan and Francis "Hammy" (Delores) Brey of Greenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn; his son, Michael; his brother, Wallace and his sister, Norma Sinner.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests Memorial to Monsignor John Malik Education Fund.

Family and friends may express condolences online at www. maurinaschilling.com.

A Special Thank You to his extended family at Colby Retirement Center for the wonderful care and compassion Daniel received these past four years.
