USS Catamount (FHTNC) – Lloyd D. Abel, Machinist's Mate Fireman, USN, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Otto W. Abel of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), was a member of the crew
of the dock landing ship US Catamount, which this month donated 53 pints of
blood to the University Hospital of Kobe, Japan, while serving with the U.S.
Seventh Fleet in the Far East.
During a previous visit to Kobe in 1962, the Catamount's crew members donated
blood to the same worthy cause. The blood bank at the hospital is considered to
have some of the most modern facilities in the world.
While in the Far East, Catamount has visited ports in Japan, Hong Kong and the
Philippines.
