Acheson, Helen F. (24 July 1917 - 31 May 2016)
Helen Acheson, 98, of Christie died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Clark County
Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen.
Helen F. Acheson was born July 24, 1917, to Herman and Elsie Pagenkopf in the
Town of Grant, Clark County. She attended Washington School in the Town of Grant
and St. John’s Lutheran School. She graduated from Neillsville High School in
1935. She worked for the Clark County Welfare Department as a stenographer for
10 years.
Dec. 16, 1945, she married Don Acheson at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in
Winona, MN. She farmed with her husband near Christie until his death in 1985.
She continued to live on the farm and worked 16 years for the School District of
Neillsville, retiring in 2004, at the age of 86.
Helen was active in the community and fundraising. She was a member of the Clark
County Farm Bureau. She served as treasurer for the Christie School, was a 4-H
Leader for the Happy Valley 4-H Club and was a member of the Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary. She served as a treasurer of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. For
over 50 years Helen was a member of the Happy Homemaker’s Club. Helen was a
member of the United Church of Christ and the Circle of Friends. Helen loved
animals, flowers and berry bushes. She cherished sheep. She enjoyed baking and
doing fieldwork, especially driving tractors.
Helen is survived by her twin daughters, Pat Acheson (Herman Seebandt) and Pam
Acheson (Pat Kane); four step-grandchildren: Garret, Marie, Clarice and Elice;
four step-great-grandchildren; two nephews; three nieces; and members of the
McElroy and Mohr families.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 1985; her parents; a
brother, Victor Pagenkopf; and an infant brother, Leo.
Funeral services for Helen were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the
United Church of Christ in Neillsville, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until 1
p.m. Pastor Jacoba Koppert officiated. Interment was in the Neillsville City
Cemetery. Following the service and interment, a meal was served at the
Neillsville American legion Hall, honoring Helen and Don Acheson.
Honorary casketbearers were: Duane Boon and Art Luedeke.
Casketbearers were: Keith Decorah, Kelvin Decorah, Terry Byrne, Stephen High,
Ken Shirk and Dale Shirk.
