Junior Kiwanian (February - 2016)

McKenna Ruzic

As “a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child, and one community at a time,” Kiwanis puts great value on the achievements of youth and seeks out opportunities to help them succeed in their pursuits. With this mission in mind, the Neillsville Kiwanis Club proudly continues its Junior Kiwanian program, which spotlights the outstanding talents, commitment and achievements of local high school students.

The club is pleased to have Neillsville High School senior student McKenna Ruzic as its Junior Kiwanian for the month of February. She is the daugher of Shawn Ruzic and Shelly Leavens, and was introduced to the club by Secretary Herman Seebandt.

A strong academic background, extensive work experience and a commitment to the community characterizes this student’s high school career. Ruzic is a member of the National Honor Society, Fine Arts Club and Spanish Club, and has served as class vice-president. She has received two academic letters and achieved multiple straight A honor roll.

This highly-motivated student is getting a head start on her advanced education by completing course work in certified nursing assistant training, medical terminology and college level English. Ruzic has received a UW-Milwaukee Chancellor’s Award and had been accepted into next fall’s Honors College program. She intends to major in pre-med.

In addition to her academic and extra-curricular work, she is employed 30 hours per week as a CNA at Neillsville Care and Rehab, waitresses at the Neillsville Country Club, and previously was employed at the A & W Restaurant. Ruzic also volunteers her time at the Clark County Humane Society and at Stepping Stones Early Learning Center.

The community can take great pride in students like McKenna Ruzic, who use their talents to make the most of their high school years and prepare themselves to be active and productive leaders of tomorrow. The members of the club welcome her as our Junior Kiwanian and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
