Wilcox, Joyce Y. (15 Nov. 1936 - 7 April 2016)

Joyce Y. Wilcox, 79, of Neillsville passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016. She was born Nov. 15, 1936, to Hilda (Heideman) and Charles Knutson of Medford. Joyce attended eight grades at the Wayside School and graduated from Medford High School in 1954. She enrolled at Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire, graduating in 1957.

Joyce married Glendon K. Wilcox Dec. 21, 1957, and he preceded her in death in August of 1987. She was employed at Luther Hospital, Whitehall Community Hospital, Neillsville Memorial Hospital and the Clark County Public Health Department where she worked from 1970 to 2000, at which time she retired.

Joyce was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, participating in ELCW, choir and quilting. She sung with the Clark County Choraliers and the Palm Sunday Concerts at Marshfield. Joyce loved and appreciated her family and friends and frequently attended luncheons and activities to stay in touch. She also enjoyed crafts, trying new recipes, volunteering and gardening, especially her tulips, daffodils and crocuses in the spring.

Survivors include her children: Brenda Schmidt of Milwaukee, Dennis Wilcox of Eau Claire and Michelle Wilcox (Cliff Hendrick) of Onalaska; her precious grandchildren: Daniel Wilcox of Eau Claire, Sarah (DJ) Cooper of Eau Claire, Christina (Ricky Scoville) Wilcox of La Crosse, and Erin (Daniel) Stawicki of Cudahy; and her great-grandchildren whom she enjoyed immensely: Emily, EllaMay, DJ, Elaine, Edel and Augustus Cooper; Ethan Wilcox; Alina, Aerith and Holland Scoville; and Audrey, Wyatt and Cole Stawicki. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law: Wayne Wilcox of Oak Creek, Eugene Wilcox of Cornell, Ronald (Nancy) Wilcox of New Berlin and Delbert Wells of Medford; sisters-in-law: Lorraine of Eau Claire and Karen of Cornell; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was predeceased by her father, Charles, in 1937; stepfather, William Diels in 1977; mother, Hilda in 2000; sister, Delores Balciar in 2001; sister, Genevieve Wells in 2015 and son-in-law, Donny Schmidt in 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Chad Anderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Jodi Rueth, organist, and the Calvary Lutheran Senior Choir. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Calvary Lutheran Church General Fund or the Clark County Humane Society.
