Smazal, Eugene "Jack" E. (12 OCT 1933 - 2 APR 2016)

Eugene "Jack" E. Smazal, age 82, of Unity, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. The Reverend Sue Eidahl will officiate.

Burial will be held at Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5 and from 10:00 AM until time of service Wednesday all at the funeral home.

Jack was born October 12, 1933, the son of Charles and Clara (Ress) Smazal in Fenwood, Wisconsin.

He was united in marriage to Irene Haas on January 28, 1976 in Waukegan, IL. Jack worked as a custodian for Monster Hall and Colby Elementary, helped build silos, drove dump truck for Jerome Ruden, hauled truck toppers for Wilderness Campers and drove semi for Morris Mantor and Ernest Carroll.

Jack liked polka music, stock car racing, all star wrestling, watching game shows, taking care of his flower garden, especially geraniums and raising rabbits on his hobby farm. Most of all, he cherished his family.

Jack is lovingly survived by his wife of 40 years, Irene Smazal of Unity; his three children: Betty Smazal of Marshfield, Kelly (Mike) Svoboda of Marshfield and Gene (Gwen) Smazal of Unity; five step-children: Cindy (Carey) Gosselin of Port Francis, Canada, Dave (GiGie) Harder of International Falls, MN, Michael Harder of Wilmot, ND, Brian Harder of Colby and Wendy (Jim) Blake of Lewiston, ID; seven grandchildren: Matthew, Nicholas and Dexter Weber, Chrystal North, Noah Kropp, Garrett and Eleanor Smazal; 12 step-grandchildren: Luther and Jesse Nichols, Paul Harder, Josh and Matthew Harder, Nicole and Megan Harder, Pauline, Chelsea and Nikki Harder, Crystal Skrien and Cory Gosselin; four great-grandchildren: Mikey and Lexi Weber, Kyra Kramer-Weber and Brooklyn North.

He is further survived by two brothers; Kenneth (Judy) Smazal of Unity and Donald Smazal of Colby; six sisters: Delores Petri of Auburndale, Clara Swanson of Wausau, Beverly Recore of Medford, Jeanette Smazal of Wausau, Marlene Golowski of Omro and Marcella "Sally" Smazal of Colby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Charles, Edward, David and Victor and sisters; Bernice, Lucille, Betty, Carol Krueger and Diana and a great-grandson, Zayden.
