Cook, Roderick L. "Rod" (14 JUL 1916 – 8 MAR 2016)
Roderick "Rod" L. Cook, age 99, of Colby passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016
at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held
at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Colby. Father Peter Manickam will officiate. Interment will be held at St.
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00
p.m. on Friday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with a Prayer
Service at 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the
church.
Rod was born July 14, 1916, the son of Raymond and Ida (Loughead) Cook in Unity.
He graduated from Unity High School in 1934. Rod was united in marriage to Leona
Steinwand on June 7, 1937. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1991. Rod was
united in marriage to Alice (Bowman) Bender on May 20, 1992. He was a farmer and
a businessman.
Rod was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and member of the Knights
of Columbus including service as Grand Knight. He also was the mayor of Unity,
alderman for the city of Colby and a member of the Colby District School Board.
Rod is survived by his wife, Alice of Colby; four sons: David (Virginia) of
Evansville, IN, Michael (Juanamaria) of Columbia, MO, Gary (Monica) of
Statesville, NC, and Kevin (Pamela) of Whitehouse Station, NJ; 17 grandchildren:
Patrick (Pamela) Cook, Paula (Frank) Kepes, Joseph (Lisa) Cook, Julia (Curt)
Zella, Angelique (Adam) Clapper, Christopher (Peggy) Cook, Nick (Theresa) Cook,
Alexander Cook, Todd (Jennifer) Cook, Jennifer Cook, Michelle Fox, Renee (Joel)
Blazer, Darrell (Missy) Cook, Ryan (Michelle) Cook, Lauren (Ben) Ellert, Justin
Cook and Aaron Cook; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren (Joan) of
Hayward; a sister, Jean of Owen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is further survived by Alice's children: Diane (Steve) Bauer, Duane Bender,
Dan (Debbie) Bender and Dean (Sue) Bender; nine grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; son and daughter-in-law,
Ronald (Patricia); two brothers, Orland and Donald and sister, Eleanor.
