Dodge, Robert L. (1 JUL 1925 - 26 OCT 2015)

Robert L. Dodge, age 90 of Birnamwood, died on Monday, Oct. 26, under the care of Cloverleaf Terrace, Birnamwood.

Robert was born on July 1, 1925 in Medford, the son of the late Herbert and Myrtle (Peterson) Dodge. On April 6, 1956, Robert was united in marriage to the true love of his life, Geraldine Schmidt in Birnamwood. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 2009.

Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was a proud member of the Birnamwood Memorial Post #7933 VFW. After an honorable discharge, Robert received a degree in teaching and taught science at the Birnamwood Elementary and Middle School for over 37 years. Robert loved reading and books. Upon retirement from teaching, he became the librarian for the Wittenberg Elementary School Library and later the Birnamwood Public Library.

He was very involved in Boy Scouts, serving as a Boy Scout leader in Birnamwood and a camp counselor/director at Camp Tesomas in Rhinelander. Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aniwa. He enjoyed music, gardening, and reading and, after his vision declined, listening to books on tape. Robert had a large and giving heart and truly loved being around people.

Survivors include his sons, Garen Dodge, Oakton, Va., James Dodge, Green Bay, David Dodge, Oakton, Va. and Christopher Dodge, Fitchburg, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by 10 siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aniwa. Pastor Betty Wyatt will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
