Mrs. Martha Witt observed her ninetieth birthday with friends and relatives calling during Sunday afternoon. She had had many visitors throughout the past week and expressed her gratitude for kindness of neighbors.
The former Martha Degen was raised in the Town of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.). After her marriage to august Witt they lived on a farm near Spokeville for twenty years before moving to Loyal.
Of her five children, Mrs. Agnes Traeder lives in Appleton; Mrs. Bernie (Ella) Zuege lives in Milwaukee, and Albert, who lives with her, works in Marshfield. Two other children are deceased. She has ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Her husband passed away in 1964. She had been married on Feb. 14, 1903, which was the date of her father's birthday, and later her fourth child was born on the anniversary date.
After breaking her hip nine years ago, she found it a little more difficult to get around, but manages very nicely with crutches or her mobile chair. Being bothered with a vision problem she does not knit or crochet anymore, but does read the newspaper headlines and has a few favorite TV programs. Her hearing is very good and she enjoys visiting with her friends.
She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
