Yankee, Carl A. (3 July 1885 - 30 March 1974)

Carl A. Yankee, 88, of Rt. 1 Granton, a native of the Town of Lynn, died March 30 in Neillsville. Services were held Tuesday afternoon from Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant with the Rev. Richard Eggen officiating. Interment was in the Town of Lynn Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Mr. Yankee, the son of Herman and Louise (Reichert) Yankee, was born July 3, 1885, in the Town of Lynn and attended Sunbeam School there. He also attended the University of Wisconsin where he studied cheesemaking and graduated in 1902. Mr. Yankee purchased the Star Corner Cheese Factory that year and operated it until 1916.

He also worked at several factories and in lumber camps during his lifetime, and joined his brother in farming in 1910. They farmed together until 1963 when the land was purchased by a nephew, Duane Anding. Mr. Yankee, who was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church, served on the Town board and as Town treasurer for several years.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles (Lydia) Anding of Neillsville; a brother, Amos Yankee of rural Granton; three nieces: Mrs. Harlow (Ella) Hanson of Marshfield, Mrs. Ora (Sylvia) Chidester of Chicago, Il., and Mrs. Erma Turman of Eau Claire; and three nephews: Gilbert Yankee of Colorado, Arnold Anding of Neillsville and Duane Anding of Granton.
