Troz, John G. (4 MAR 1917 - 17 AUG 2015)

John G. Troz, 98, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015, at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI.

He was born on March 4, 1917, the son of the late Daniel and Kathrine (Figura) Troz, in the town of Withee where he attended area schools and helped his parents on their farm.

In his youth, John and his neighbors would hop freight trains out west to harvest crops to make ends meet, traveling as far as Wenatchee Valley, Washington to pick apples.

John left for the army in 1942 for World War II and served two years overseas in England, France, and Belgium. After three and a half years in service, he received an Honorable Certified Disability Discharge at Fort Bliss, Texas with a rank of Staff Sergeant.

On May 24, 1947, John married Helen Amdahl of Stanley at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stanley. They bought their farm in the town of Warden where they also raised three children. John and Helen quit farming in 1980, but lived on the farm until 2003 when they moved to the city of Stanley.

Helen preceded John in death on October 3, 2006. His parents, a brother, Pat, and two sisters, Ann and Mary also preceded him in death.

John loved traveling, dancing, fishing, gardening flowers, and telling stories.

He is survived by his children, Patty (Ken) Theirl, JoAnn (Arnie) Roytek, and Gary (Jane) Troz, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. John will be happy to be with Helen again.

Private family services will be held. The Plombon Funeral Service-Stanley assisted the family.
