Fifty-one La Crosse State University athletes, participants in the winter intercollegiate athletic program of the university, have been recommended for letters by their coaches. Each must fulfill a set of requirements within his sport before the recommendation can be made.

Nominated from wrestling by freshman Gerald Weyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weyer, R. 2, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.).

He will receive his letter at a May 30 athletic awards banquet, to be held on the La Crosse State campus.

The Indian winter sports teams met with great success their seasons of competition. Both La Cross swim and gymnastics team captured the Wis. State University Conference Championships. The basketball team finished 6th of 9 competitors, and the wrestlers tied for 7th position.

Jerry’s achievements as a freshman are quite an accomplishment, as normal the only members of the Varisty Squad are Juniors and Seniors.

Much of his success is due to the outstanding job done during his high school wrestling days at Loyal High School.

Among some of the honors collected by Jerry this year in addition to his letter, are:
1. He place second in Upper-lows Intercollegiate Invitational.
2. Took home a fourth place medal in the Wis. Intercollegiate Invitational.
3. Place second in Wis. State College Conference commpetion.
4. Competed in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Assn. (NIAA)
5. Placed on the Second Team in District 9 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, comprising the states of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
