Anderson, Dwight Freeman (16 December 1927 - 9 August 2015)

Dwight F. Anderson, 87, of Neillsville, formerly of Waupaca, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at the Kourtland House in Greenwood where he currently resided.

Dwight Freeman Anderson was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Waupaca, the son of Nels and Eva (Reiben) Anderson. At the age of three, Dwight lost his hearing as a result of having rheumatic fever. He graduated from Port Wing high School and then went to work as a machinist for Logamann Brothers in Milwaukee for many years. While attending a lip reading class at the Milwaukee hearing Society, he met his future wife, Anita. They were united in marriage July 25, 1953.

Dwight was very active throughout his life and loved gardening, swimming, riding bike and raising finches; but most of all loved his church. He was a deacon at the Maranatha Assembly of God Church for the Deaf, where he was a member. His family spent many summers at the Spencer Lake Bible Camp where they would swim and water ski.

He lived in Saukville from 1977 to his retirement in 1990. He and Anita moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he lived for 15 years. Dwight eventually lost his eyesight and moved to Neillsville to live with his daughter, Cheri Taubenheim. Throughout his life, Dwight maintained a great attitude and always overcame challenges with a strong faith in the Lord.

He is survived by two daughters: Cheri (Tony) Taubenheim of Neillsville and Bridget (Troy) Bretl of Fredonia; three grandsons, Jason, Jeremy (Marissa) and Trevor; and two great grandchildren, Nikita and Jaeden. Dwight is also survived by siblings: Kermit, Elwyn and Charlene Fugleberg.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita; a son in infancy; and siblings: Robert, Laverne, Leroy, Alois, Marlene, Charlotte, Francis, Darlene and Quentin.

A Memorial service will be held for Dwight at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Sally Rendel and Pastor Asafa Rakotojoelinandra will officiate. Visitation time to greet the family will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. before the service.

There will also be an open house for Dwight from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday Aug. 16, 2015, at the home of Troy and Bridget in Fredonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dwight’s name may be directed to the Center for Communication, Hearing and Deafness, 10243 W. National Ave., West Allis WI 53227.
