LaCapro, Dorothy Veronica (Grothman) (13 DEC 1914 - 25 JUL 2015)

Dorothy Veronica LaCapro, 100, Medford, died at Our House Assisted Living, Saturday, July 25, surrounded by her loving family, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 29 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Phil Juza and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Interment took place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Dorothy Grothman was born on Dec. 13, 1914 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Alexander John and Eleanor (Tuckowski) Grothman.

She was married to Joseph James LaCapro, on Feb. 15, 1936 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1999.

She was a sales lady at Marshall Fields, a Red Cross nurse’s aide during World War II, worked as an administrative secretary at St. Mary’s Hospital in Chicago and was a high school teacher’s aide. After moving to Medford in 1971, she was active at Holy Rosary Church, with the hospital auxiliary, the Taylor County Commission on Aging and the city election board.

Dorothy was a volunteer with the Red Cross, and Memorial Hospital in Medford. She helped teach catechism at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing cards and gardening with her husband. She loved music and playing piano. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests at her home. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia DeChatelets of Medford; five grandchildren, Renee (Doug) Waterman of Appleton, Laura (Dan) Buser of Larsen, Joseph (Eufemia) DeChatelets of Belvidere, Ill., Denise (Scott) Blair of Seymour and Jeanette DeChatelets of St. Paul, Minn.; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, and son-in-law, Ronald DeChatelets.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Dorothy may be made to Hope Hospice or Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
