West Eaton (5 Sep 1918)

Mr. Davey writes to his home folks that he and John Schmidt hardly got off the train in North Dakota before they got work. They say there is plenty of work and help is scarce, and that board and wages are also good.

Lou Dimeler’s barn was struck by lightning last Wednesday morning and burned to the ground. Mrs. Dimeler was shocked and rendered unconscious for a day and at this writing is not able to help herself.

The Glee Club met at the home of Mrs. Davey in honor of Mr. Schmidt and his son, who have land here. The son will soon enter the service for Uncle Sam.

Mr. Pieuk is helping H. Bostwick make marsh hay during Jason’s absence.

Gwen Borgers has been sewing for Mrs. Davey.

Mrs. George Gemmeke has been soliciting for the Red Cross dinner to be held at Greenwood Wednesday.

Merril Stanley and Mrs. Bostwick and George Gemmeke and Iola all autoed to Neillsville Sunday to see Jason who is working in the Dresden livery.

School began Monday with Miss Sarah Cole as teacher. Miss Cole comes well recommended and we hope she will be satisfactory to everyone. She has taught a number of years and as she has had some experience we feel that she will meet with success.

Lyle Bostwick sold and delivered some chickens to Mrs. Salmonsen Friday.

Gertrude Davey visited Jennie Podobnik Sunday.

S. B. Flagg and family were seen driving on our streets Sunday.

Mrs. Lakotich visited with Mrs. Podobnik Sunday.

H. Bostwick called on Mr. Oznich Sunday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Yartz went to the picnic at Willard Sunday.

Mrs. George Gemmeke and Mrs. H. Bostwick called on Mrs. Bahl Friday evening.

Joe Buettner called at Bahl’s Friday evening.

Merril Stanley visited Lyle Bostwick Sunday.

Mrs. Lenher called at Bostwick’s Sunday.

Alfred Meinholdt called on Lyle Bostwick Sunday.

Sophia Susa spent Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Lenher.

Mr. and Mrs. John Able painted the West Eaton school house Saturday.

Mrs. Palzer and son Leo visited at the Joe Susa, Sr., home Sunday evening.

Mr. Parkhill visited at the Seclisker home Sunday.

Lyle Bostwick sold and delivered chickens to Mrs. Salmonsen Friday evening.

Mrs. Fred Swartz is on the sick list.

Mr. and Mrs. Persin attended the picnic at Willard Sunday.

Eddie Able called at the Bostwick home Sunday evening.

Jason Bostwick is working in the Dresden livery barn at Neillsville for a change.
