Sollberger, Mrs. William (Trip to Milwaukee - 1973)

Mrs. William Sollberger returned home Saturday morning after spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McDonell and children, Dorrell, Garry and Susan, in Milwaukee. The McDonells have a cabin in Columbia and has spent the weekend here. A highlight of her stay in Milwaukee was a tour through the three space age ‘Domes’ of the Mitchell Park horticultural conservatory, which duplicate climates and plant communities from around the world. In addition to the tropical and arid domes, the show dome presents exciting displays of horticultural beauty.

Wednesday, Mrs. Sollberger was a dinner guest of Jake Leiser and daughters, Ruth, May and Laura. Jake is semi-retired and has a woodworking shop, where he makes lawn ornaments, household furniture and gift shop items. A specialty has been wishing wells. He is kept busy filling repeat orders for customers and church bazaars.

Beautiful red roses were in bloom around the Leiser home and workshop.

The Leisers are former Columbia area residents.

Mrs. Sollberger did not wish to leave Milwaukee without seeing a former pupil, so Friday evening she called on Mr and Mrs. Roy Lisko, who live on a quiet one-way street in a residential area. Mrs. Lisko, the former Alice Winter, daughter of the late Julius A. and Jennie Winter, once lived in this area and attended the old Sunny Nook School.

Early Saturday morning we were on our way back to Columbia. Mrs. Sollberger accompanied Lawrence McDonell and sons, Dorrell and Garry and their dog, Mitzi, who spent the weekend here in their cottage on Cherry Street. Mrs. Sollberger had been a guest throughout the week of Mr. and Mrs. McDonell and family at their home on Howell Avenue.
