Longwood (History - 1973)

At the regular meeting of the Clark County Historical Society at Longwood last Thursday evening, Mrs. Phyllis Conrad gave highlights from the early history of Longwood with personal comments as to present landowners and identification of sites. Mrs. P. L. Vine of Vida, Montana, had written the history about ten years ago for her niece. As the former Alida Swenson, she had lived in the Longwood area and taught rural schools in the early 1900’s.

During the business meeting, the various activities were summarized including work being done by the Future Farmers of America at Colby in cleaning up the Colby depot-museum grounds. The Green Thumb workers have completed several weeks of work at the same location.

In a report of the North central region Wisconsin council for local history, it was noted that Clark County will be in the northwest region in 1974 with the convention being held in Price County. A folder from Hoard Dairy Museum, Fort Atkinson, was passed around for suggestions in setting up society displays.

Mrs. Pearl Vorland with several members of her committee discussed the chicken-ham dinner to be served from noon until 2 p.m., at the Dorchester Memorial Hall, on Sunday, October 21. Miss Elsie Bremer is in charge of the posters.

Lunch was served by Mrs. James Peterson, Mrs. Ellen Tomich, and Mrs. Phyllis Conrad who are members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church where the meeting was held in the parish hall.
