Lewis, Phoebe Ann (Marriage - 1 September 1973)

Miss Phoebe Ann Lewis became the bride of Paul Joseph Bertz in a private ceremony performed Saturday, September 1, at 2 p.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley. The Rev. Richard Eggen, pastor, officiated together with the Rev. Charles D. Brady of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mr. John Bertz, in Neillsville. The bride, presented in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Lewis, Rt. 2 Neillsville.

The newlyweds were honored Wednesday, September 5, with a reception and dance at the Neillsville American Legion Hall.

Georgette over taffeta formed the traditional white bridal gown, styled with a cowl collard, shirred nylon bodice and lantern sleeves. The skirt flowed into a chapel train. A bouffant veil fell from a Camelot headpiece trimmed with satin ribbon and venise lace. Pink carnations, red sweetheart roses, purple statice and baby’s breath combined for a bridal nosegay.

Attendants were Miss Lauren Bertz and William Benson. A nosegay of rose and pink carnations and purple statice accented her hot pink gown highlighted with ruby trim, and styled like the bride’s gown.

Guests were seated by Duane Marty, Granton, and Phillip Bertz.

Mrs. Kenneth Karnitz was the organist. The congregation sang ‘O Perfect Love.’

The bride was honored with a pre-nuptial shower given by her maid-of-honor.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Bertz, both 1973 Neillsville High School graduates, will make their home at Great Lakes, Il., after a wedding trip to points in southern Wisconsin. The groom is serving in the Navy and graduated recently from the Great Lakes training center. He will continue studies there in the field of electronics.
