Empey, Emmalee (Scholarship - 2023)
Emmalee Empey from Abbotsford, a student who is studying Criminology at the
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is among the scholarship recipients for the
2023-24 academic year.
Empey won the Chancellor Scholars, Communications/Forensics Awards and
Fitzgerald Family scholarships.

Ag Business of the Quarter (Award - 2023)
New for this year, Neillsville FFA highlighted an Ag. Business each quarter to
show appreciation for their work with agriculture in the community. The officer
team spent time this summer planning out their goals for this project and making
a list of potential award winners. This week, the officers delivered the first
Ag. Business of the Quarter Award to the Clark County Farm Service Agency. “The
[Farm service Agency] works daily to support and advocate for farmers in our
community,” Carla Byrne said, Neillsville High School agriculture instructor and
FFA advisor. “They are also very supportive of the Neillsville FFA.”

Girl Scout Treats (2023)
Nov. 8, leaders and member of Girl Scout Troop #3343 received an order of treats
to distribute to customers. Thrisha Bushman (far back) called out numbers of
each product, while Joely Walter and Lori Filla oversaw Ryann and her sister,
Ellyn, sorting out the proper amounts. Devin Wright and Isaac Kantu of
Straighter Moving Systems unloaded the truck of over 100 boxes. From there, the
orders were broken down by town, scout troop and by individual scout.

Honoring Those Who Still Serve (Legion Post - 2023)
Members of the Neillsville American Legion Post #73 and Auxiliary take a moment
between events to have lunch Nov. 11. During the course of the day, the unit
presented at the Granton High School Veterans Day program, Neillsville High
School Veterans Day program, The Neillsville American Legion Veterans Day
breakfast, Roger Grottke’s wake (an Army National Guard veteran) visited the
Neillsville Nursing Retirement Home and Riverside Assisted Living Center and did
evening programs with the boy and girl scouts. Look for more reporting on local
Veterans Day Programs in this issue of the Press.

Support For County Drivers (Volunteers - 2023)
Clark County Social Services recently held its annual volunteer driver’s
banquet. In attendance were (front, l-r) Stanley Lew, Anita Canfield, Donna
Langfeldt, Roger Tessen, Sally Heindl, William “Shorty” Franz, Donald Drinka
(back), Stacey Fausett, Kaitlin Raine, Maryanne Olson, Marge Beaver, JD Holmes,
Jerry Heindl, Roger Ellison, Brigette Witte, Lacey Murphy, Jessica Clark and
Shauna O’Keefe. Every year, the department hosts annual training for its
driver’s and uses the annual training to host a banquet to thank them and
celebrate another year of hard work from them. This year’s theme was Insurance
and Liabilities. The Clark County Department of Social Services provided a meal
that was catered by Schmitty’s on Main, as well as a dessert (cake by Love &
Flour) and various gifts and gift certificates that were donated by area
businesses throughout the county.

Tibbetts, Marguerite Anne (23 October 1923 – 3 November 2023)
Marguerite Anne Tibbetts, age 100, died peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023,
at Azura Memory Care in Eau Claire listening to Mozart on her headphones.
Marguerite was born on October 23, 1923, to the late Frank E. and Frances (Hogg)
Brown in Neillsville, Wisconsin. She grew up in Neillsville before graduating
from Lawrence University in 1944 which is where she met her husband, Bob. She
later took graduate courses in Library Science at the University of Wisconsin -
Madison.
On November 9, 1945, Marguerite married Bob at her parent’s home in Neillsville.
In February 1947, the couple moved to Beloit where they both went to work at
Fairbanks Morse Company. They lived and worked in Beloit until they moved to Eau
Claire in 1989 to be closer to family and their cottage on the Chippewa Flowage.
While in Beloit, Marguerite worked at the Public Library once the kids could
take care of themselves. She loved music, especially singing for over 40 years
in the First Congregational Choir in Beloit and then in Eau Claire, serving as
Alto soloist for much of that time.
She and Bob enjoyed genealogical research which took them on many trips
searching cemeteries and courthouses throughout the country. She was a member of
the Eau Claire Chapter of DAR. Marguerite honored those who came before her and
those of us who follow. For many years she was a member of a wonderful Eau
Claire quilting group making numerous beautiful quilts for the family.
Marguerite loved to travel. We often said “if you open the car door, she’ll get
in.” She traveled to Alaska, China (at age 81), the British Isles (8 times) and
multiple times to Germany and Hungary. She was a complex woman with a very dry
sense of humor, which was only enhanced as she got older.
She had a love for dogs, especially Shelties and Border Collies, and considered
them the best companions in life. She lived to read and later when she could no
longer see well, she listened to books on tape for hours.
Reaching the age of 100 was an important goal for Marguerite. On October 23,
2023, Marguerite’s family and her Azura community hosted a well-attended 100th
birthday celebration for her which she enjoyed immensely.
Marguerite is survived by daughter, Pamela Tibbetts (Linda Ellwein); sons,
Charles (Eva) Tibbetts and Robert (Ye) Tibbetts; grandchildren, Philip Tibbetts,
Rebecca Tibbetts, Amy Ellwein, and Patrick (Rachel) Ellwein; many nieces,
nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her favorite sister, Joan
Bodamer.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for the wonderful care
given to their mother by the staff with Homestead, at Azura Memory Care and with
Mayo Clinic Health System-Home Health and Hospice.
Services are being planned for a later date. Interment of her cremated remains
will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery in Neillsville, WI. Evergreen Funeral
Home and Crematory in Eau Claire is serving the family.

Bohman, Dorothy E. (17 October 1937 – 16 November 2023)
Dorothy E. Bohman, age 86, passed away with family at her side on Thursday,
November 16, 2023, at her home in the Town of Frankfort, Marathon County.
Dorothy was born on October 17, 1937, in Abbotsford, to Norbert and Elva (Olson)
Ven Rooy and was a graduate of Colby High School. She was united in marriage to
Donovan J. Bohman on October 5, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. He
died on September 11, 2009.
In addition to being a farm wife, raising her five children, and assisting her
husband as a milk hauler, Dorothy had been employed in food service as a cook at
St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement.
Dorothy enjoyed shooting pool, riding motorcycle, snowmobiling, and spending
time at the camper in Conover.
She is survived by her children Linda Bohman, Cindi Petri, both of Marshfield,
Patrick (Debbie) Bohman of Spencer, Gary (Sarah) Bohman and Kelly Bohman, all of
Stratford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jaime Petri, Jason
Petri, Jesse (Jessica) Bohman, Eric (Alex) Bohman, Ariel (Charlie) Kauffman,
Alex (Emily) Bohman, and Evan (Ashley) Bohman, and seven great grandchildren,
Katelynn Seehafer, Evelyn Kauffman, Bentley Bohman, Alex Bohman, Gary Bohman,
Oliver Bohman, and Marmee Bohman. She is further survived by sisters, Patsy
(Tom) Milbeck and Sandy (Dave) Donatell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Adam Bohman,
and brothers, James, Richard, Donald, and Peter Ven Rooy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023,
at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford, where the visitation will be from
9:00 a.m. until service time. Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam will officiate. Burial
will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County, and
grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. St. Joseph’s Parish Council of Catholic
Women will recite the rosary at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Sauter/Rembs
Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Bynes, Phyllis J. (19 June 1931 – 14 November 2023)
Phyllis J. Bynes, 92, of Owego, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the
UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, New York surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born in Cortland, New York in June 19, 1931. She was the daughter of
William and Marjorie (Howard) O'Loughlin. She completed school and married
Ransom “Jack” E Zimmer on September 14, 1950. They lived in Newark Valley, NY
and had six children. As their children grew Jack and Phyllis wanted to farm and
decided to move to Wisconsin. In 1975, they bought a dairy farm in Curtiss, WI.
The time on the farm was special to them and their family. Their grandkids had a
lot of fun spending time on the farm with them in the summer. After Jack passed
away, Phyllis would move back to New York in 1990 to be closer to family. She
wanted to make a new life for herself and went back to school. She worked hard
in school and received her LPN license while in her 60’s. She always enjoyed
helping people. She would retire from Absolute Care of Endicott at the age of
81. In her free time, she would volunteer and deliver meals for the Meals on
Wheels organization and continued to volunteer her time past her retirement.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling back to Wisconsin to visit family but also greatly
enjoyed her travels to Hawaii, Ireland, London and her visit to the Holy Land in
Israel. Her faith was important to her. She was involved with her church and
took comfort in her faith. She enjoyed reading and she was never without a new
book to read. She always said reading kept the mind sharp. She enjoyed her
animals, and her favorite were her cats, especially Ebony. She loved her family
so much, and her most favorite time was time spent with them. She was warm with
everyone she met and could have a conversation with anyone and make them feel
special.
Phyllis is survived by her children and their spouses, Marjorie (Dale) Nicholls,
Jack Zimmer, Rosemary Zimmer, Steve Zimmer, Doug (Brenda) Zimmer; 12
grandchildren, Michelle, William, Angie, Marcus, Nicole, Mandy, Lawrence, Jr.,
Jesse, Heather, Ashley, Lindsey, Jenna; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Marjorie O'Loughlin; two
husbands, Ransom Zimmer, Jack Bynes; son, Jeffrey Zimmer; granddaughter, Beth;
great-granddaughter, Torrie; brother, William O'Loughlin
The family will receive friends Friday, November 17, 2023. from 11:00 a.m. to
12:45 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at the Estey,
Monroe & Fahey Funeral Home in Owego NY. The family will receive family and
friends on Tuesday, November 21 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford, WI
from 9:00 until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Paul
Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, Curtiss, WI.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to UHS Wilson Medical Center
in Johnson City, New York for the care and compassion.
