Mike, Owen Cyrus (23 August 1941 - 18 November 2014) With Flag

Owen Mike, 73, of Neillsville died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at his residence.

Owen Cyrus Mike was born Aug. 23, 1941, in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of Thomas and Pauline (Winneshiek) Mike. He attended the Cranmore School and then vocational school in Wisconsin Rapids. He joined the United States Army Oct. 4, 1961 and was discharged Oct. 19, 1963. Later, he joined the United States marine Corp Nov. 28, 1967. Owen was discharged from service Oct. 1, 1971, and then spent his time traveling around the United States. He loved to write and was known as a jokester. He also loved deer hunting and playing cards.

Owen was a proud member of the Ho-Chunk Nation and spent the last years of his life devoted to speaking his native language and preserving his culture.

Owen is survived by a daughter, Paula Michelle Mike of Bloomington, IN; two grandsons, Niles mike and Pepper Mike; four siblings, Judy Buffalo of Nekoosa, Ernestine (Mike) Helgesen of Black River Falls, Clarice Jackson of Wisconsin Rapids and LoyLee Mike, also of Wisconsin Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pauline, and brothers, Armond, Clayton, Wilfred and Desmond.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Owen Mike residence, W7052 Bush Road, Neillsville, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Richard Mann officiated. Interment was in the Dells Dam Cemetery.
