Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for William Ernest Poler, 83, of Rt. 1 Neillsville, who died May 30 at the Marshfield Convalescent Center. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

William Ernest Poler, the son of Charles and Mary (Weymer) Poler, was born March 15, 1890, at Omro and received his education there. He came to Clark County with his parents at the age of 17 and worked as a farm hand. His marriage to the former Madalene Shiltz took place June 12, 1909, in Neillsville; the couple observed their 50th and 55th anniversaries and would have been married 64 years June 12. In 1910, the Polers moved to North Dakota where they farmed and homesteaded for seven years before returning to Wisconsin to farm in the Town of Washburn. Mr. Poler served as clerk and as treasurer of the Washburn School board for several terms. The Polers moved to their present home south of the county fairgrounds in 1968.

In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children: Mrs. Albert (Helen) Kapfer of West Bend, Mrs. Lois Mathews of Lake Geneva, Mrs. George (Ardis) Sherwood of Neillsville, Mrs. Oliver (Hazel) Williams of rural Granton, Mrs. Ethel Henne of Lake Geneva and Charles and Robert Poler of West Bend. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Joyce Harris of Hastings, Mn, a brother, Ollie Poler of Granton; and by 25 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
