Schultz, Bertie Fred (25 September 1913 - 6 October 2014)

Bertie F. Schultz, 101, of Neillsville died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.

Bertie Fred Schultz was born Sept. 25, 1913, in the Township of Hewett in Clark County, the son of Herman and Lottie (Wiesner) Schultz. He attended area schools and was confirmed at the Cannonville Church. At a very young age, he learned the roofing trade and was very proud to have roofed his entire life. He was united in marriage to Dolly Klueckmann Nov. 25, 1940, in Waukon, IA. Together, they farmed in the Weston Township for 26 years. In 1966, they moved to the Hewett Township, and in 2010, they sold their home and moved into Neillsville.

In their earlier years, they loved to go snowmobiling and going to car races, especially taking their grandchildren to the Golden Sands Speedway. Bertie liked to spend time outside making wood and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to garden and spent many hours working on their yard. He also liked to get together with friends and play cards. He was a member of the Christie Country Snowmobile Riders, Hatfield Sportsman’s Club. He was on the Hewett Town board and served as an usher and volunteer at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville where he was a member.

He is survived by one daughter, Joan Zickert of Neillsville; two grandchildren, Greg (Doreen) Zickert of Neillsville and Dawn (Brent) Elwood of Emery; and three great-grandchildren, Malory Zickert, and Tayler and Katherine Elwood.

Bertie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolly May 27, 2012; three brothers, Harvey, Archie “Butch” and Victor; and a sister, Emma Sester.

Funeral services for Bertie were held at 11 a.m. Friday Oct. 10, 2014, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jacoba Koppert officiated and Eileen Zank, organist, provided music. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
