Schwantes, Frances Ida (1 Mar 1881 – 8 Oct 1966)

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Ida Schwantes, 85, Colby, were held Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.  The Rev. David Pankow officiated, and burial was in Colby Memorial cemetery.  Funeral arrangements were handled by Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby.

Mrs. Schwantes died Saturday, Oct. 8, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville, following a lingering illness.

Pallbearers were William, Duane, Terry and Jeffery Schwantes, Arthur Grauman and Arthur Nagel.

Kenneth Schulz sang during the service, accompanied by Mrs. William Frome.

Born France Justman at Iron Ridge on March 1, 1881, she received  her education in Spencer area schools.  Her marriage to William Schwantes took place April 17, 1901, at Spencer.  Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm west of Unity until moving to Colby in 1928.  Mr. Schwantes died Oct. 25, 1955.  Mrs. Schwantes was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, and its Sewing Circle.

Surviving are two sons, Maynard Schwantes, Leon, Ia., and Donald , Neillsville; a daughter, Mrs. Byrne (Ermine) Neville, of Elm Grove, five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Esther) Lambert, Edgar, and Mrs. Harry (Lydia) Hermanson, and two brothers, Walter Justman, Unity and Norville, Edgar.

Mrs. Schwantes was preceded in death by her husband, on son, Walter, four brothers, and three sisters.

Relatives and friends came from Hamburg, Birnamwood, Edgar, Abbotsford, Marshfield, Neillsville, Spencer, Unity, Wauwatosa, and Sandy Ore.
