Heagle, Alexander R. (16 APR 1881 - 30 JAN 1967)
A.R. Heagle, 85, Stanley, died at Victory Memorial Hospital at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Stanley, with the Rev. Roy Scott officiating. Burial will be in the East Thorp Cemetery at Thorp.
Mr. Heagle was born in Seymour, April 16, 1881. He moved to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) with his parents when he was 9 years old. At the age of 12 he started work at the sawmill, where he remained for five years. He then went back to school and was graduated from Thorp High School in 1900. That fall he taught school at Curtiss. He married Martha Barr on Thanksgiving Day in 1901 in Thorp. He went into the lumber manufacturing business in Thorp, then in 1907, they moved to Gilman, where he started the Gilman Manufacturing Co. of wood products. On May 26, 1908 he married Mabelle Minard in Kansas City, Mo., and they lived in Gilman until 1939, when they moved to Stanley and started the Gilman Mfg. Co. there, making kitchen furniture. He operated this plant until 1950, when he retired.
Mr. Heagle was active in civic and church work, both in Gilman and Stanley. He was a past president of the village of Gilman; a past member of the Stanley City Council; and at the present time, a member of the Methodist Church in Stanley, and the Gideons.
Surviving are three sons, Gordon, Stanley, Charles, Buffalo, Minn., and Rush, Coshocton, Ohio; and one daughter, Mrs. Heron Van Gordon, Neillsville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
