Ackeret, Gerald A. (2 JUL 1926 - 5 APR 2014)
Gerald A. Ackeret, 87, Dorchester, died on Saturday, April 5 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Louis
Catholic Church in Dorchester, with Father Dan Hackel and Father James Schaeffer
officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Dorchester
Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers are Dan, Greg and Steve Ackeret,
Greg and Luke Heier and Chuck Gust.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with
arrangements.
Gerald Ackeret was born on July 2, 1926 in the Town of Little Black to the late
Gottlieb and Elizabeth (Hirsch) Ackeret. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School in
Medford, and was a 1944 graduate of Medford High School. He enlisted in the
National Guard, Medford Division and served in the United States Army during
World War II.
On December 27, 1958 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence, he
married Marian J. Pientok, who preceded him in death on February 5, 2010.
Following the war, he returned to Medford and worked with his brothers at
Ackeret Bros. He worked in banking and insurance for the State Bank of Medford
for 11 years, Farmers and Merchants Bank in Greenwood for eight years, and
Dorchester State Bank for 20 years where he was president and CEO, retiring in
1991. He continued to serve on the board of directors until 1995.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he served as lector,
extraordinary eucharistic minister, leader of prayer, and served on the pastoral
council and finance council. He was also a member of 4th Degree Knights of
Columbus, Dorchester American Legion Post No. 517, past treasurer of the Taylor
County March of Dimes and Medford Chamber of Commerce, and past member of
Medford Curling Club, Greenwood Rotary Club, Clark-Taylor County Bankers
Association, and Dorchester Lions Club.
Survivors include three children, Ellen Ackeret of Appleton, Faye (J. Free)
Ackeret of Portland, Ore., and Kevin Ackeret of Dorchester.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers,
Robert, Vincent and George "Greg" Ackeret, and two sisters, Catherine Dosselman
and Genevieve Lorenzen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to the
family for future charitable designation.
