Walk, Carl Frederick William (22 FEB 1845 – 4 Aug 1916)

Carl Walk passed away at his home on Forest Street last Friday. He had fought his illness with great courage and it was not until a few weeks ago that he took to his bed. Deceased had been a resident of Clark County since 1888 and during that time had won a large circle of friends for his was a genial disposition, strict honesty and integrity and great energy. He so lived his life toward his neighbors and friends that his illness and death was a matter of the deepest regret to everybody and his memory will be kept green for many years by the thoughts of his goodness and kindness.

Carl Frederick William Walk was born Feb. 22, 1845, at Schoenfeld, Unckermarck, in the province of Brandenburg Kreis Preuslau and came to Watertown, Wis., with his parents and brothers and sisters on Jan. 1, 1869. He lived in Jefferson County until Oct. 26, 1888, when he moved with his family to Clark County, locating on a farm three miles southeast of Neillsville. He lived there until three years ago when he and his wife moved to town to spend their declining years. He was united in marriage to Marie Christine Wilhelmine Herbst on Sept, 27th, [year not listed in article], and to this union nine children were born, four boys and five girls, the latter of whom have all preceded their father in death. Deceased is survived by his wife and sons, John of this city, Carl of Bay City, Mich.; Paul and Rudolph of Clarkson, Wash. Also by three brothers and three sisters—William and Gottfred of Monroe Center, Ill.; Mrs. Ulm of Whitewater; Mrs. Kunert and Mrs. Passer of Ft. Atkinson and August of this city.

Mr. Walk was laid to rest Monday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. Brandt at the Lutheran [Church]. Who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ulm of Whitewater; Mrs. Will Luderman and Herman Kunert of Ft. Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. Gottfred Reindfleisch and Frank Korth of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walk of Bay City, Mich.; Rudolph Walk and son, Robert, of Clarkston, Wash.
