Thums, Lillian (Kurek) (16 FEB 1917 - 24 JAN 2014)

Lillian Thums, 96, Rib Lake, died on Friday, Jan. 24 at Golden LivingCenter in Rib Lake, where she had resided the past four years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating.

Interment will be at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Greenwood. Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Kristin Rahn, Wendy Budimlija, Tiffany Annala, and, Paul, Jay and Bryan Thums.

Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a combined prayer and rosary service at 7 p.m., and at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

February 16, 1917 at Minneapolis, MN

EDUCATION:
Pickard graded school, Chicago, Mud Lake elementary school, Town of Rib Lake, 1936 graduate of Marshall High School, Chicago. She later completed a library course and received the grade 3 librarian certificate

MARRIAGE:
June 18, 1938 at Rib Lake Catholic Church to Edwin George Thums and he preceded her in death in 2000

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE:
She was a librarian for 43 years at the Rib Lake library and a director for 20 years. She was a partner and accountant with her husband’s Phillips 66 oil business. She was very active with her family, church and community. She was an EMT and member of the First Responders, volunteer at the Rib Lake schools, Cub Scout leader, and sang in the Ecumenical Choir. She was awarded the Pax Cristi award & Lay Person of the Year for the Superior Diocese.

MEMBER OF:
Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake where she was in the church choir for 50 years, Christian Mothers, and past head cook. 20th Century Club, Rib Lake Commercial Club, American Legion Auxiliary past president.
