Laken, Frank (6 December 1890 - 31 December 1971)
Frank Laken of Greenwood died last Friday afternoon in Neillsville, where he had
entered Memorial Home three weeks ago.
Mr. Laken, son of John and Theresa (Mlaker) Laken was born December 6, 1890, in
Austria. He came to Ottawa, Il, as a young boy and to the Willard area in 1914.
Mr. Laken was married May 29, 1917, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard to
Mary Tolaney, who survives him. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1967. He
purchased land and cleared it for farming and then farmed in Willard for 36 year
before retiring in 1953 and moving to Greenwood.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Matt (Helen) Dergance
of Hillside, Il., Mrs. Otto (Mary Ann) Berg of Washington, D. C., and Mrs.
Joseph (Josephine) Verschay of Owen; a son, George, of Lyons, Il; eight
grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Josie Bradish, and a brother, Mike Laken, both of
Ottawa, Il.
Funeral services were held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Hill Funeral Home and at 10
a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Leander Koopman
officiated. Burial was made in the Holy Family Cemetery in Willard.
